Mindfulness Matters

Practicing mindfulness can help kids learn to focus, manage stress, regulate emotions, and develop a positive outlook. In this class, learners will be using the THRIVE model by incorporating mindful games, breathing techniques and guided meditation. These methods will help learners become more aware of their thoughts and feelings in their everyday lives.

Bricks for Kidz

Autism Unplugged Learning Centre is excited to announce our newest program BOOST.

​

Sponsored by Bricks 4 Kidz Woodbridge, this monthly program provides an extraordinary atmosphere for students to build unique creations, play games, and have loads of fun using LEGO® bricks. The activities are designed to trigger young children’s lively imaginations and build their self-confidence. Programs are built around proprietary model plans, designed by engineers and architects, with exciting themes such as space, construction, superheroes, Mining and Crafting, Angry Bird, Amusement park and so much more! Bricks 4 Kidz is a project-based curriculum that is designed to teach a fun approach to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). The model uses LEGO® plastic bricks and other LEGO® products.

 

Date: Wednesday, May 1st, 2019  (1st Wednesday of every month.)

The Magic Pill Screening with

Dr. Sonya Doherty

Ever wonder if your Autistic child is reacting to something in their diet? Join us on May 29th for a Screening of The Magic Pill. Guest speaker, Dr. Sonya Doherty, FMAPS (Cand.) will discuss the affect of diet on autism as well as steps you can take right now to help your child.

Can a high-fat, low-carb diet prevent and even cure illnesses like cancer, diabetes, heart disease and autism? “The Magic Pill”— is an Australian documentary from celebrity Pete Evans, suggests the modern diet is to blame for the majority of chronic diseases.

In the film, Abigail, a young girl with autism — who ate processed chicken fingers, goldfish crackers, and apple juice previously — appeared to make significant gains after five weeks of a restricted diet. Though she struggled to adjust to the diet initially, her parents were convinced it was working. Her father noted her belly was less bloated, she had more regular bowel movements (she took a laxative every day prior to the diet) and she communicated better.

“She’s able to concentrate, and she’s able to progress, because she’s not running all over the place and she’s not seizing,” her doctor says in the film. “Her seizures are going down, and we have tangible data from the school. We are actually starting to wean her off of the anti-convulsory narcotic that she’s on…
